One of my favourite childhood tv shows had a storyline where this little short skinny kid would get bullied at school by this tall bigger kid. What do you have for lunch he said. Give me your pocket money he demanded. He would often give him a wedgy for the fun of it. One day that short little kid got fed up and decided to fight back and learned karate. The next time he was approached by the bigger kid he used his newly learnt skills and was victorious.

We see in Daniel a similar situation. Daniel was being turned against, not just by one person but a group of people.

Daniel 6:7 NIV “The royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lion’s den.”

His bullying wasn’t a physical one but a spiritual one. Daniel like that small skinny kid decided to fight back, through the only way he knew best, prayer. We learn through Daniel that we too can fight back spiritually, we can fight back against our enemies.

Daniel 6:10 NIV” Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.”

The interesting with Daniel is his situation didn’t change in fact it got worse. Not only was he not allowed to pray he was then punished for doing so and thrown into the Lion’s Den. Yet he still did as he always did, he prayed.

Have you ever struggled to see the importance of prayer ?

Have you seen your situation get worse in spite of your prayers?

Many people seem to either turn to God only when their situation worsens and they need a quick fix, whilst others turn away from God when in spite of their prayers their situation doesn’t change but in fact gets worse.

But Daniel knew the real power of prayer wasn’t that it changes or fixes your situation (when you want it to) but But the real power of prayer is when you kneel before God you can stand before any man.

Daniel knew that you don’t just pray when your situation gets worse in your life but you pray irrespective of your life’s situation. Because doing so you will win in the end.

So the next time someone is mean to you, hurls insults your way or does something even worse, Remember you are tallest when you kneel and you are strongest when you eat your vitamins and SAY YOUR PRAYERS.
