Book of the Month – How to Code a Sandcastle

It is the start of the summer and soon many of you will be heading to the beach to enjoy the sand and make sandcastles. Our book of the month How to Build a Sandcastle by Josh Funk tells about a girl named Pearl and her trusty rust-proof robot, Pascal, wanting to build a sandcastle before summer vacation is over. They get this done by coding. Pearl breaks the task into smaller steps, then uses conditionals, loops, and other basic coding concepts to tell Pascal exactly what to do. But building a sandcastle isn’t as easy as it sounds when you have surfers with big surfboards, mischievous dogs, and coding mistakes get in the way. Just when it looks like the sandcastle might never work, Pearl uses her coding skills to save the day and create something even better: a gorgeous sandcastle kingdom. Have a read of this amazing book and then create a game and share it with us or visit any coding website that you may have used in the past and code a game that we can play.
